Coach Lyas was born into an Army family and spent his childhood in places such as Japan and Germany. He moved to Austin to attend the University of Texas, where he earned a Bachelor’s degree in Biology. He also holds a Master’s degree in Educational Leadership and a Master’s in Chemistry. Now in his 20th year with Austin ISD, Coach Lyas has served in multiple roles, including 10 years at Lanier/Navarro, first as an assistant principal and now as a teacher, currently teaching UT OnRamps Chemistry and Advanced Chemistry. Coach Lyas is a lifelong athlete who has competed in swimming (his favorite), baseball, soccer, and track, and he continues to make fitness a priority in his life. He is excited to join the tennis program and work alongside Coach Aguilar and the team as they continue to grow at Navarro.
