The Austin Navarro wrestling program was represented on the state’s biggest stage as freshman standout Jonnell Montalvo competed at the 2026 UIL Girls State Wrestling Championships in the 5A 235-pound division.
Montalvo, finishing her season with an impressive 20-11 record, qualified for the state tournament in just her first year of high school competition — a significant accomplishment and a testament to her rapid development throughout the season.
While the results did not fall in her favor, advancing to the UIL State Championships as a freshman marks a major milestone. Competing against the top wrestlers in Texas provides invaluable experience that will serve Montalvo and the Navarro program well in the years ahead.
With a full offseason and three more years of eligibility remaining, Montalvo’s state appearance signals a bright future for Austin Navarro girls wrestling.
