Boys Soccer picked up an important victory on the road at Lockhart on Tuesday night in freezing rain. Both teams had to battle the conditions, but it was the Vikings who finished on top with a 2-1 victory.
Goalkeeper Johan Gamon stopped a penalty in the first half with a strong left foot kick save. The Vikings responded by scoring twice in the minutes following this crucial moment. First Ricky Hernandez found himself in space and blasted a worldie from 45 yards into the top corner. Minutes later, as the Vikings pushed numbers forward, Cristopher (C.C.) Cisneros sent a cross into the box for Rodrigo Suarez to smash home with a left foot finish.
Lockhart was able to put one in on a nicely worked corner kick before half-time, but with the rainy conditions worsening in the 2nd half, neither team was able to fashion any clear cut chances. The Vikings showed their experience in managing the time and ending the game 2-1 victors.
Current Standings with 6 games played have Navarro in 3rd place - two points clear of Northeast and, importantly, 5 points ahead of LBJ and Lockhart in the Playoff Race.
