CAPITAL CLASSIC RESULTS

On November 19th & 2oth, the Navarro Viking Wrestling team competed at Capital Classic in the first tournament of the season. The Viking boys kicked off the action on Friday at the JV Tournament and a lot of new Vikings got some much-needed experience as they stepped on the mat for the very first time. They were led by Junior Rookie Sadaqat Iman Ud Din (126) and Senior Rookie Alfonso Williams (220). Sadaqat picked up his 1st win by decision (11-4) against D. Thai of Round Rock, a pin in the first period against B. Fruge of Vandegrift, and losing in the finals to J. Finklea of Cedar Park taking 2nd place. Alfonso Williams (220) had a great start with a pin in 59 seconds against C. Rivas of RR McNeil. He then took on A. Lucero of Leander losing by just 1 point and beat J. Hester of Cedar Park Vista Ridge in overtime by 1 takedown. Alfonso finished 4th place after losing against D. Kiddie of East View due to injury. David Valdez (182) picked up the first pin of his career defeating B. Lewis of Akins HS. Rookies Faisal Shirzad (145) and Marcellus Black (152), as well as Veteran Gabriel Garcia (285) all battled tough and showed great attributes they can improve on. Varsity and JV Girls' action started Friday night and continued throughout Saturday. The Lady Vikings were led by Senior Captain Ezabella Solano (95), who took the competition by storm with 3 pins against McCallum, Coppers Cove, and Georgetown. Bella has set high goals for her final season and she is off a great start with a 3-0 record and a 1st place finish. Senior Rookie Karleigh Calderon (148) showed her determination as she gained her 1st win over district opponent A. Massingill of Crockett. Rookie Karla Ramirez (110), Senior Katia Maldonado (148), Rookie Alexis Carranza ( 165) all wrestled hard and are looking forward to their next time on the mat. The Viking Wrestling Program is just beginning their road to success and have already seen growth after only a few practices. As a coaching staff, we are very excited about the upcoming season!
