Last night the Navarro Viking Wrestling Team battled to defend their home mat. The wrestlers put forth their best effort all around for total team performance. The Viking boys and girls teams wrestled Anderson and LASA in two duals. The Vikings fought tough but came up short against Anderson and LASA due to having to void many weight classes. Starting the night off with Navarro against Anderson. Junior Gabriel Garcia won his first match of the season! After scoring first Gabe fought all the way through to the 3rd period to finish with a pin against Anderson. Sadaqat, Marcellus, Faisal, & Rafael all had tough matches but came up short. The Vikings wrestled hard against LASA with a 3 - 2 head-to-head match-up. Junior Sadaqat earned his team points with a forfeit. Senior Faisal Shirzad dominated his match. Marcellus Black defended well coming out on top. Both guys finished by pinning their opponents. The Lady Vikings came out hard against Anderson with a Dual score of 18 -12 and dominated LASA with an 18-0 team score. Senior Captain Bella Solano added 2 more wins to her undefeated record. Even wrestling up a weight class Bella dominated her opponents with 2 more pins. Senior Karleigh Calderon and Katia Maldonado both fought hard to come out on top pinning both of their opponents. This young team will only continue to improve with every competition. They continue to work hard and are motivated to succeed. We also recognized Wrestling Alumni Andrey (Daiz) Rodriguez as a State Champion Wrestler & Leader for our wrestling program. She was one of my first wrestlers as a Coach at Lanier (now Navarro)
