On Wednesday, the Viking Wrestling Team competed in the first District Duals, facing off against both the McCallum Knights and Anderson Trojans. The Vikings defeated the Knights 24-23. Rookie Ricardo earned a pin in the 3rd period over Omar L after a tough, grueling match. Captain David Perez battled hard in a tough district matchup, finishing strong with a fall in the 2nd period. Daniel Gallegos secured a win with a fall against Nico L. Senior Captain Brandon Morris won after a competitive match that ended with an injury to his opponent from the Knights. Derek Cabello earned a win against Jeremiah of TSBVI with a strong double leg takedown. The Vikings then lost to the Trojans 39-16. Yulio came out strong against Z. Bronson, winning 16-7 by points. David pinned N. Howard in the 1st period. Brandon Morris finished the day strong with a 3rd-period pin against M. Bae. The Lady Viks also had a strong showing, defeating McCallum 30-12 and tying Anderson 24-24. Senior Kathy Guzman wrestled tough and secured a pin in the 1st period against McCallum. Senior Captain Leslie Lopez pinned Kiara (TSBVI) in the 1st period. Melanie Cardona, Michelle Ajtun, and Layla Trevino helped the Lady Viks secure points through forfeits against McCallum. Against Anderson, Mia Munguia and Kathy Guzman both faced tough losses. However, Anahi Mendoza, Michelle Ajtun, and Layla Trevino secured team points by forfeit. The Viking team, including Senior Melanie Cardona, Anahi Mendoza, Rookies Antero Albiter, Jeremith Varela, and Freshmen Gustavo Franco showed impressive effort and improvement. They are excited for their next match this weekend, continuing to build on their hard work and determination.
